Our power is in our past
By the very nature of what we do, working with heirloom jewellery, we spend a lot of time talking about the past.
Our clients love to reminisce and tell us stories; tales of their family, adventures, romances, childhood, travel, work.
After all, you and I only exist because of the thousands of stories which came before us; our parents, our grandparents and our ancestors. In fact, we believe it so passionately that our business is named after my two beautiful grandmothers – Irene and Jenny. Thinking about their lives always makes me curious to want to know more.
For many of us, we spend so much time planning the future that we don’t get a moment to stop. Take stock of what’s happened over the last week, year or decade.
Before we know it, we’ve been so busy thinking about tomorrow that we haven’t appreciated all of the years which have flown by without us noticing.
That’s why, working with people’s heirloom jewellery is such a privilege. We take our clients on a journey whereby we give them the time, and headspace, to look back on the milestones in life which have made them who they are.
Our power is in our past. The strength of our identity, our values and our purpose, comes directly from our family’s journey.
The strength and grit from watching immigrant parents. The determination from overcoming childhood trauma. The ambition and drive from wanting to stand on our own two feet. The kindness learnt from hitting rock bottom. The adventurous spirit inspired by a rebellious role model. The love and empathy absorbed from the most precious people in our lives.
None of us are brand new. We all come with a history; both genetic and experienced. We are simply threads woven into the fabric of life.
Simply put, embracing our past helps us understand who we want to be in the future.
